Cakeball Donation!

Pillsbury Funfetti mix, white icing, vanilla coating
As busy as I was last week, I did manage to squeeze in time to make some cakeballs for my friend Sarah. It was 2am and I was up crafting...what else would I be doing?! Sleeping?! HA!

She was having some people over early afternoon Sunday for a CABI party. Similar to Mary Kay/Tupperware/Jewelry parties, there are usually adult beverages (tee hee!) and food served with lots of chit chatting going on while people shop. Since I couldn't make it, I told her I'd make a little treat for her and bring it over in the morning. As you can see by the picture, it's been a LONG WHILE since I've made cakeballs and my dipping skills are atrocious. These were the best of the lot which isn't saying much.

I went over to my bestie's house last night to give them their wedding gift. IT'S FINALLY FINISHED!!!!! Now that the cat is out of the bag, I'm proud to say that their WEDDING SCRAPBOOK that documents everything from the very beginning (the proposal), to the very end (a bright, happy honeymoon picture) is now in their hands.

Speaking of hands, I'm lending mine to help make dinner tonight at their house. Erin has a great recipe from Martha Stewart for deconstructed lasagna. It's not as heavy and calorically scary as traditional lasagna so I'm very excited to try it out and then blog about it here.

Until then foodies, happy eating! :)

Whirlwind of a weekend!

My big brother graduated from medical school this weekend and holy moly was it fun!!! I baked two batches of cake balls and cake pops for the festivities (destroying my tiny kitchen in the process), and we managed to devour almost all of them (even after stuffing our faces with more goodies from the fridge!).

The devil's food ones were the hands-down faves but the carrot cake put in a good show. Nom nom!
We had family come visit from out of town and it really made the whole occasion THAT much sweeter! We did a lot of gabbing, crying, and laughing this weekend as we gathered together to watch Frank walk across the stage and receive his MD.

We had lunch at McCormicK & Shmidt's, where we gobbled our way through appetizers like portobello mushroom and goat cheese bruschetta, steamed clams, a crab, avocado, and mango tower, tempura shrimp, and more. In my excitement to snap pictures on my iphone to document these yummy treats, similar to a great California redwood falling over, I too fell out of my chair in the restaurant and crashed to the ground -- what a spectacle! Having more family in town also means more people to laugh at you when you make an ASS out of yourself in your nice dress at a nice restaurant. The best part is that ALL of the foodie pictures that I ended up taking were fuzzy and sent to the iphone picture trash can later! Fun times... ;)

It has been a long four years and we are so incredibly proud of Frank's success. Congratulations buddy! <3

Cake Pops!

Tonight I made my second batch of cake pops (edible batch!). I've become a fan of the Pillsbury brand of cakes because they're very moist -- others I tried were too dry. Boooo...

I ventured over to Michael's today and purchased a new dipping fork and they turned out SO MUCH BETTER than the last batch! It totally cut down on the dipping time too. Now my big project is to figure out how to properly heat chocolate. I think I'm overheating my chocolate because it thickens and makes it more difficult to dip. Bakerella's blog is a fabulous website for cake pops and cake balls. She is an incredible artist. :)
