I baked red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing for Alicia's 27th birthday last week and brought them in to work. They were GONE by 8:15am!!! Not even kidding! We work with hyenas who devour most anything brought in containing sugar and/or sprinkles. As I write this, I'm pretending that I didn't contribute to the madness by scarfing one down in my office before I even turned my computer on...hehehe! ;)

I'm hooked.....on blogging!!!
Ok ok....this will be my last entry for today...maybe. ;)
My maternal grandmother and I have an extremely close relationship. Nana is also the bomb.com in the kitchen and I credit her with introducing me to almost all of my favorite comfort food recipes. One of her specialties which I've never been able to recreate are her meatballs. Some sort of veal/beef combination, they are AMAZING served with her homemade spaghetti sauce and pasta. Served with a light salad and you have a family favorite in our house!
Have I mentioned that she makes homemade chocolate chip cookies? How cute is she?! I'm the luckiest granddaughter ever!! XOXO
I live with two roommates (aka kitties who always seem to be underfoot and in my way....ESPECIALLY when I'm taking something hot out of the oven or off of the stove top! Murphy and Jenny are very much like me in the fact that they love to eat. So much so that I heard a large crashing noise one morning at 6am. This was what I got to wake up to before going to work:
I took this picture after cleaning up quite a bit of their kibble. When they say that "a picture is worth a thousand words," they really mean it -- I was speechless!
Happy eating! :)
Presentation Is Half The Fun!
I recently hosted my brother and his girlfriend for dinner and I tried my hand at a few appetizers....when I say that, it REALLY means I just arranged things that I purchased from H-E-B in a pretty manner. Ha!
What I served:
- St. Andre brie cheese (creamy and delicious!)
- Water crackers
- Pita chips
- Grape leaves stuffed with something tasty (no clue what it was though:( )
- Sundried tomatoes
- Fresh strawberries, grapes, and a granny smith apple
- Kitchen Sink Red Table Wine
Perfect Scrambled Eggs!
Eggs! Eggs! Eggs!
Just like Julie Powell from "Julie & Julia," I long to learn how to cook the perfect poached egg. Eggs are packed full of protein and are a healthy and yummy way to add richness to your meal. Ever added a fried egg to pizza? I have! That's one of the toppings you can add if you order a pizza at Dolce Vita (yum!).
Recently, someone sent me a link to a video where Chef Gordon Ramsey creates the "Perfect" scrambled egg meal. Watching this video made me want to not only get in the kitchen, but do it right then and there! I stopped at the store on my way home from work and took a crack at it (pun intended hehe) in my kitchen!
Here is the link to the video: Perfect Scrambled Eggs
What you'll need:
- 3 large eggs
- Dollop of creme fraiche
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lump of unsalted butter
- Fresh chopped chives
Melt butter in a quart-sized pot on a low/med heat. Crack eggs and wisk together. Continue stirring on low heat. When eggs start to cook/form together, take off of heat, continue to stir. Add dollop of creme fraiche, stir. Add salt and pepper to taste, stir. When eggs are cooked, sprinkle with fresh chives and serve.
The video is awesome in place of my directions -- I highly recommend watching it. :)
Happy eating!
